Awesome Golf Factor Finals Weekend – East Anglia 2011
Cambridge Golf and Conference Centre hosted the Golf Factor Finals over the weekend of the 15th and 16th of October and
organisers were again blessed with perfect weather conditions for the drama to play out!
Saturday saw the “Bootcamp” phase of the competition kick-off, in which the children who progressed from the opening weekend
were given a thorough examination of their golfing skills, including chipping and pitching, iron play, driving, putting,
bunker play and lob shots. The atmosphere was tense as participants prepared for a second day of golfing “auditions”.
Bootcamp is designed to filter out the very best talent to take forward to play in an 18-hole golf competition the following
day. After the morning session, half of the 50 contestants were eliminate from the competition leaving the rest to compete
for the 12 coveted places in the final at Brampton Golf course on Sunday.
Sunday was finals day with the Future Stars taking centre stage in the morning, playing a skills challenge course set up with
Tri-golf equipment. The “Future Stars” had also progressed from the opening weekend heats and were all keen to score as
many points as possible on tricked up course which really tested the younger players ability. 12 year old Ellis Bond
came out a clear winner and had a smashing time in doing so, as he was so overwhelmed with his win that he dropped his
shiny glass trophy on the floor, smashing it into pieces! Amarthya Chandrappa 11, and Archie Carrol took home the
runners up awards.

Brampton golf club was the scene for one of the most closely fought and high class golf factor finals in its history
and in the end only one shot separated the top 3. The 12 finalists equipped themselves admirably and the quality of
golf was high, which was evident from the first tee shots to the last putt that was struck. In the end, Aaron Kumar
came out on top scoring 39 stableford points, from Michael Gee and Thomas Foster. To the victor go the spoils so
they say and Aaron can look forward to some brand new golf equipment courtesy of sponsor direct golf, some expert
golf tuition from John Letters Academy Director Darren Scholes and a trip of a lifetime to the Open Championship
at Royal Lytham St. Annes next July, as well as an invite to the champion of Champions Golf Factor Event next year.

Hot Heats at Golf Factor East Anglia!
Cambridge Golf & Conference Centre smashed its Golf Factor record entry tally this year, with 110 children taking part
in the Golf Factor talent auditions and newly introduced Future Stars Skills challenges over the unseasonally hot and
sunny October weekend.
Golf Factor organiser James Beattie was highly impressed with the golfing talent that converged on the fantastic facilities
in Hemingford Abbots, near Cambridge.
“We saw at least a dozen children on each day that we felt were more than capable of winning the Golf Factor completion
and loads more that performed great in auditions! I was also really happy with the number of children who came along from
the schools we have been coaching in to take part in the Future Stars challenge and its fair to say there are many, many
golfers with potential and talent in Cambridgeshire and beyond!“
On Saturday Auditionees were treated to perfect golf conditions. As well as auditioning for Golf Factor the competitors
took part in a putting tournament and a chipping contest as well as using the world class facilities to hone their short
game and bunker skills. Parents were able to keep cool and also keep track of the Rugby World Cup games and Football in
the St. Andrews Bar and Restaurant.

Golf Factor went live on Saturday afternoon when James was interviewed on air by Cambridge infinity radio sports show
who were keen to learn more about the event and which judge was most like Simon Cowell!

The Sunday of Golf Factor weekend also coincided with Grandparents day and the famous St. Andrews Restaurant
Carvery. After eating a delicious meal, many of the families joined in the Golf Factor events with grandchildren,
mums and dads and the grandparents all trying their hand at the tricky putting course and the chipping
competitions, which also raised £141.48 for the Chris Gill Junior Golf Foundation.
Judges now have the tough job of reducing the amount of talented golfers to invite back to Hemingford Abbotts,
for the intensive boot camp day which takes place on the 15th of October, alongside the final of the Future
Stars Competition where a lucky winner will receive a set of John Letters Swingmaster Irons courtesy of our
sponsor Direct Golf UK.
