Yorkshire Golf Factor 2011 – Merseyside Final Produces High Scoring Rounds!

The golf factor final was played in hot and humid conditions at Arrowe Park Golf Club, Wirral, Meresyside. Young golfers from across the area came together to contest an 18 hole Stableford competition. Scoring was high as the course played hard and fast with little wind and all finalists scoring under their handicaps.

The final produced a worthy winner in the shape of 12 year old Daniel Heron playing of a handicap of 14. Daniel finished agonising close to the prizes last year and has worked hard at his game through the off season with coach Tony Davis who was “proud as punch” of his charge. The highlight of the round came at the par 5 14th with Daniel producing a
high-flighted fairway metal from around 170 yards which landed softly to two feet and was
dispatched for eagle, on his way to 45 points.

Yorkshire
In 2nd place was 14 year old Andrew Marsh who played a remarkable round of 49 points a massive 13 shots under his handicap of 20! Andrew is sure to be dropped when he gets to play some junior competitions at his home club. In 3rd place scoring an almost unbelievable 51 – yes 51! points to drag himself up the scoring table to claim 3rd place by 5 points was Matthew Broderick of Stalybridge, playing 15 shots under his handicap of 32. Matthew belied his handicap and showed a deft touch around the greens throughout the day. Special mention must go our only female finalist Lucy Jamieson whom put in a spirited perfoemance to finish in an agonising 4th place and was only outdone by Matthew Brodericks “miracle round” of 51 points.

All three now go onto compete in the Champion of Champions event at Whittlebury Park over the weekend of the 17th and 18th of September.
