John Letters of Scotland, the equipment brand with over 90 years of clubmaking history, is delighted to report their appearance at the 2010 PGA Merchandise Show, Orlando, a resounding success.
Established in 1918 and renowned globally for producing golf equipment of the highest quality, John Letters showcased their latest range of performance products at the Orange County Convention Center from the 28-30 January 2010 during which they received an overwhelming response from the trade.
With an unrivalled heritage and history of craftsmanship within the game, the world of golf showed its delight by welcoming John Letters back on the global stage. Their comprehensive product range for 2010 combines the very latest technologies with its fine craftsmanship techniques, to re-establish John Letters with its many fans on this international stage.
Most notably, 20-time PGA tour winner Doug Sanders, walked onto the stand and enquired how he could obtain two custom-fitted John Letters TP forged wedges. With fond memories of how he and his great friend Frank Sinatra played with John Letters clubs, members of the trade looked on in amazement as the John Letters’ technicians carefully crafted the 304 stainless steel forged wedges to Saunders’ exact specifications.
Saunders joins a list of golfing greats, including Fred Daly, Dai Rees, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Sam Torrance, Cathy Panton, Bernard Gallacher and Paul Lawrie, who have played and won on tour with John Letters clubs. And when you start to study the statistics, there aren’t too many brands that can rival their record of club-making achievements, reportedly winning the British Open more than any other single club maker.
Rescued from potential obscurity when it was purchased by AA class PGA Professional John Andrew in 2005, John Letters until now has been available on an exclusive basis by leading UK retailer Direct Golf.

John Letters staff professional Daniel Gaunt fires magnificent rounds of 69 and 67 to book his place in the 2009 Open championship. With only 12 golfers going through from nearly 300 qualifying hopefuls, big names such as Jose Maria Olazabal fell by the wayside at the Kilmarnock Barassie golf course, but Gaunt’s ten under total was good enough to see him snatch one of the qualification spots. Commiserations go to fellow professional and older brother Chris Gaunt, who narrowly missed out on qualifying by a single shot at the Glasgow Gailes venue.

In recognition of the 90th anniversaries of John Letters and the end of the Great War we will be giving a donation to The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
John Letters will be giving a percentage of all products sold from Remembrance Day, November 11th, for a period of one month until December 12th. The donation will be made from sales of all products, which include clubs, bags, balls, gloves, and a full range of accessories.
John Andrew PGA Professional, and owner of John Letters Golf Limited, said:
“My Great Grandfather, John Thomas Andrew, fought in World War One and was one of the lucky ones to survive and as such The Royal British Legion has long been one of my favourite charities and we have made donations in the past. However, as we have both reached a landmark of 90 years together this year, we have decided to make a donation on all sales for a period of a month from Remembrance Day. This way we hope to raise thousands of pounds which will help support the current and ex-service community.”
